What is Al-Anon’s Service?

Service is Al‑Anon’s Third Legacy.  This is how we carry the message to others as suggested in the Twelfth Step. Service is the action part of our program.

Anything done to help a relative or friend of an alcoholic is service: a telephone call to a despairing member, setting up chairs at a meeting, sponsoring a newcomer, telling one’s story at meetings, forming groups, answering phones at an Al-Anon office, arranging for public outreach, distributing literature, financially supporting groups, or serving in a leadership capacity at the local and/or World Service Office level.

Service is an opportunity to deepen our recovery and share what we have learned in Al-Anon. It is an important part of the growth and future well-being of the program.
